SUMMARY:[ONLINE] Interpreting Data Visualizations and Maps
DESCRIPTION:There are lots of ways that data can be communicated through
visuals. Whether it is a complex web\, concentrations of points on a map\,
or a good old-fashioned bar chart\, data visualisations allow us to see
trends and relationships in the data. But visuals can also play tricks on
us. We have many biases that can lead us to misinterpret data in
visualizations\, either because the visualizations have been done badly or
because the person publishing the data wants to mislead the viewer. In this
workshop you will learn about common issues with data visualizations and
mapping that lead us to misunderstand research\, and how to make sure your
own visuals tell the real story.
