Zotero Basics: Getting Started with Reference Management Online

New to Zotero or looking for a refresher on the fundamentals? This hands-on workshop introduces the core features of Zotero and focuses on the practical steps needed to build and manage a reference library. Ideal for students, faculty, and researchers who are new to Zotero or would like a solid foundation in using the software.

In this session participants will learn how to

  • Configure Zotero settings to support efficient reference management workflows

  • Import and capture references from a variety of sources

  • Structure and maintain a Zotero library for effective information retrieval

  • Establish and manage group libraries to support collaborative research projects

  • Retrieve full-text articles using Zotero's discovery and linking tools

  • Generate and manage in-text citations and bibliographies through Zotero's Microsoft Word integration

This is a follow along session, so please create a Zotero account before the workshop and come prepared with Zotero installed on your device.

To get started, download Zotero and install the Zotero Connector for your browser. For help installing, review the Zotero installation instructions. If you are installing Zotero onto your University of Calgary owned computer, please follow our instructions attached below.
