Discover OER for Your Teaching: Finding Open and Affordable Course Materials Online
Open Educational Resources (OER) can help reduce student costs, increase access to learning materials, and provide instructors with flexibility to adapt content for their teaching. This hands-on online workshop introduces attendees to strategies for finding high quality OER using the OER by Discipline Guide: UCalgary and other OER repositories. Participants will explore resources relevant to their own courses, learn about the LCR’s OER adoption service supports including the OER by Discipline Guide: UCalgary and OCoMMS, and discover how OER can be incorporated courses at UCalgary. Time will be provided for exploration, discussion, and questions.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Locate OER relevant to their teaching utilizing the OER by Discipline Guide and OER repositories.
- Evaluate potential OER for disciplinary relevance, quality, and suitability for course use.
- Identify institutional supports for OER adoption including the OER by Discipline Guide, Open Course Materials Matching Service (OCoMMS), and library staff.
- Recognize opportunities to integrate OER into courses to support student access to learning materials.
