SUMMARY:[ONLINE] AI in Research: Smarter Strategies for Literature Reviews - Workshop #2
DESCRIPTION:This workshop examines how artificial intelligence (AI) tools 
 can support the literature review process in academic research. 
 Participants will explore how tools such as ChatGPT\, Scite\, and ScopusAI 
 can assist with topic exploration\, research question refinement\, 
 identifying key themes\, summarizing sources\, and generating synthesis. 
 The session will emphasize how AI can help with organizing citations and 
 structuring arguments\, while underscoring that critical thinking and 
 scholarly judgment remain essential. Attention will also be given to the 
 limitations of AI\, including hallucination risks\, lack of access to 
 paywalled content\, and outdated training data. By comparing AI-generated 
 outputs with results from academic databases\, participants will develop 
 strategies for evaluating and responsibly integrating AI into the research 
 process.\n\nLearning Objectives\n By the end of this workshop\, 
 participants will be able to:\n\n\n	Apply AI tools to support topic 
 exploration\, research question refinement\, and identification of key 
 themes. \n	Compare and contrast AI-generated outputs with results from 
 academic databases to assess credibility\, accuracy\, and 
 comprehensiveness. \n	Evaluate the affordances and limitations of AI tools 
 in relation to the literature review process\, including issues of 
 hallucination\, access restrictions\, and outdated data. \n	Develop 
 strategies for integrating AI responsibly into citation management\, 
 synthesis\, and argumentation while maintaining critical engagement with 
 scholarly sources. \n\n\nThis workshop is open to all members of the 
 University of Calgary community and is not part of a research study. Anyone 
 may attend the workshop without participating in any research.\n\nAfter the 
 workshop\, you will be invited to take part in a separate\, voluntary 
 research study. This study involves a short\, 10 optional question survey 
 about your learning experience. The survey is part of a project on AI 
 literacy and the use of AI in supporting information literacy skills\, 
 which has received ethics approval from the University of Calgary Conjoint 
 Faculties Research Ethics Board (REB25-1467).\n\nYour participation in the 
 survey is entirely voluntary and independent of the workshop. Choosing not 
 to complete the survey will not affect your ability to attend the workshop 
 or access library services. Survey responses will be anonymous and may be 
 included in publications or presentations about the project.
