[ONLINE] Future-Proof Your Research: Creating Portable Computing Environments with Apptainer

[ONLINE] Future-Proof Your Research: Creating Portable Computing Environments with Apptainer Online

This workshop introduces Apptainer, a containerization tool that solves these common academic challenges by packaging your entire computational environment into a portable, shareable format.

Whether you're a student working on thesis research, a faculty member managing complex data analysis pipelines, or a researcher collaborating across institutions, Apptainer helps you:

  • Ensure reproducible research - Package your exact software versions, libraries, data, and dependencies so your analysis can be run identically elsewhere

  • Collaborate seamlessly - Securely share your complete computational environment with colleagues, reviewers, or students in an easily executable manner

  • Scale from laptop to supercomputer - Run the same containerized workflow on your personal machine or an HPC cluster

  • Preserve your work - Create a permanent record of your computational methods for future reference or publication requirements

Attendees will gain hands-on experience through practical examples, these will include:

  • Building containers from definition files and local files

  • Pulling and running Docker containers.

  • Labeling and securing your containers.

No prior Linux experience is required to understand the concepts, though basic Linux knowledge will help you follow along with the interactive portions of the session.
