Copyright: What you need to know for your thesis and teaching
Copyright is a critical factor in thesis writing and teaching. The Copyright Office has prepared Theses Copyright Guidelines to help students navigate this often new territory. While the Guidelines provide an overview of what students need to consider many questions often arise, particularly at the last minute, which can lead to unnecessary stress. This presentation will provide graduate students with information regarding their copyright responsibilities as they relate to thesis writing and resources to assist in ensuring copyright compliance when incorporating third party materials into their work.
In addition, as many graduate students may also be teaching, this session will review how the educational exceptions in the Canadian Copyright Act can be applied in an institutional setting. Information will be provided on how material can be used both in the classroom and on the course management system.
A 30 minute presentation will be followed by time for questions and discussion of specific scenarios or other copyright related topics.
