R wizardry workshop In-Person

R is an open source programming language and software environment for statistical computing and graphics that is widely used in many academic disciplines.  This intensive two-day workshop will cover basic and advanced skills in computer programming using R.  The workshop will combine short lectures with directed learning using example programming.  

By the end of the workshop participants will be able to:

  • Import data into R and use R’s built-in functionality
  • Mange, select, extract, and transform data objects
  • Perform basic and advanced plotting including high-resolution figures
  • Introductions to summary and intermediate statistics
  • Write customized programming using and advanced flow control and conditional arguments
  • Build customized functions for modelling, analyses, statistics, plotting, and data management

Participants are encouraged to bring their own laptops with R and RStudio (or another syntax editor) installed, but this is not required and desktop computers are available.

  • Restricted to University of Calgary Faculty, Staff, and Students – no prior knowledge of R required
  • Restricted to 36 attendees
  • Workshop runs 10:00 am - 4:00 pm both days, but there will be scheduled breaks
